Future of Nursing Report Honored as Outstanding Cutting-Edge Health Care Book; Named a key news story of 2011 and a story to watch in 2012. (Subscription required)
The Institute of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, has been named a 2011 AJN Book of the Year in four categories: Advanced Practice Nursing, History and Public Policy, Leadership and Management and Nursing Education.The report provides a blueprint to transform nursing and the delivery of health care in America.
“The Foundation supported the development of the IOM report and is actively engaged in facilitating its implementation through the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action,” said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. “We congratulate IOM on this acknowledgement of their superb efforts.”
The AJN Book of the Year Awards is regarded by nurses and authors as the most important designation of excellence in health care book publishing. The American Journal of Nursing has been announcing its annual list since 1969. The Book of the Year program is a prestigious competition that garners the attention of more than 100,000 subscribers and half a million others who read AJN online.
“This great honor speaks to the report’s timeliness and relevance,” said IOM President Harvey V. Fineberg. “It has been an IOM best seller over the past year, and we hope it will continue to fuel constructive change in nursing and health.”
